Thankfulness

null
As a grown-up ballet student who started ballet rather late in life, it's easy for me to feel overwhelmed by all the aspects of ballet technique I can't do well. So, I decided to try and change my perspective by taking the time to pause and remind myself of what I can do well. I plan to write a blog series (published on Tuesdays) about all that I am thankful for within my own ballet technique. Today, for example, I am thankful for the flexibility in my back and that I can cambre deeply (even if Damian thinks this pose looks unnatural).  He's probably right, but that's ballet for you. :)

  2. Wow! This is beautiful! I lost a lot of mobility in my back recently, going to the chiropractor to hopefully get it back! But this is amazing!

  6. Gorgeous and what a great thing to do. :) I took ballet for YEARS and I don't think my back was ever that flexible. :)

  7. Your cambre is beautiful and has great alignment. I think it's a good idea to concentrate on what you can do well. Us dancers tend to get overly critical of ourselves.

  10. I know what you mean, I started playing the cello in college and I tried not to get frustrated by the fact that 7-year-olds were playing harder pieces than I was, at least at first.

and your cambre looks totally natural - at least for ballet ;-)

  11. Hi, just found your blog and this post reminded me of my love for ballet. No, I don't dance but ever since I was young, I've always been amazed at how ballet dancers glide as if they were flying. Also liked the sentiment of being thankful always. That, we do!

  12. Looking at the positive side if things is much better I think! Anyway I am sure there are many pose you do well. Other ones you might have to work on, that's part of the training too.
    Take care Hannah!

  14. We can always find something to complain about ~ but turning that around like you are doing and seeing the positive is so important ... good for you and look how you've encouraged people to do the same (and to stretch as well).

This pose is beautiful ~ nothing unnatural about it!

  15. Oh so nice! Back flexibility is so hard to develop. Drop that left shoulder a teensy teensy bit so that we cannot see it in profile and it will the PERFECT!
